With Gencon a mere weeks away, we want to take a moment to reflect on our time spent as amatuer bloggers at last years convention. The days were full of interviews, demos, gaming, and a couple of podcasts. You can find a list of all our Gencon ’09 articles in our PNG Gencon ’09 Wrap Up post. We covered as much as we could but obviously there was some stuff we didn’t get to post about or even have a chance to experience. The size and scope of Gencon is so big that there simply isn’t enough time to do everything. It’s has become so large that gaming events are starting to push into a day or two before the convention for the die hard attendees. We tried our best to convery this last year through a series of articles leading up to the convention. The series started with the first article detailing the dealer hall. If you click that link you can walk through all four articles that also cover gaming at the con, non-gaming events, and a the social aspect of the con. All of these articles are an excellent resource for first time con attendees but can also serve as fuel for the fire that burns within everybody who has been to the con and can’t wait for August 5th to roll around.
This year, expect much of the same. We’ll get a few pre con articles up and get whatever we can done during the con. The majority of articles will start to pour out after the convention. If you are one of the poor souls that cannot make it this year, let us know if there’s something that you wanted to try or see. We’ll do our best to give it a go and then put up some information about it. Keep checking the site before and during the con as PNG prepares for the best four days in gaming.
Just a friendly reminder that Gencon 2010 event registration goes live at 12:00pm EST today. That gives you a little under an hour to comb through a list that’s now over 6,600 event entries long! Some of the crew from Pixels and Grids will be attending this year and we’re looking forward to quite a few events. At the top of our list is TerrorWerks, a sci-fi Live Action Role Playing (LARP) played with airsoft guns. So go ahead and trudge through the impressive Gencon events list and register for some games PNG’ers!

When you really think about it, August 5th – 8th is really not that far away. At least this is what flutters through the head of a regular Gencon attendee the moment they start their commute back home on the last day of the show. We here at Pixels and Grids are no different. In the words of PNG’s own David Reid, there simply isn’t enough time when you’re at the convention. While the dates of the actual show have been available since before GC ‘09 opened it’s doors, registration for things such as your badge, housing block, and events had yet to be announced… until yesterday! Ripped from the official forums (courtesy of forum moderator Marimacc) and with some confirmation from the Gencon Facebook fan page, the dates are as follows:
Badge Pre-Registration – Sunday, January 24, 2010 at 12:00 noon (Eastern).
Housing – Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at 12:00 noon (Eastern).
Event Pre-Registration – Sunday, April 11, 2010 at 12:00 noon (Eastern).

EXTENDED Badge and Event Registration will remain open online at full price beginning June 20, 2010. More information will be coming soon!
No dates for event submissions yet, but expect it soon.
EDIT: Gencon posted the dates for 2010 event submission here. It starts January 13th (this wednesday) and will go in three phases ending on March 12th. Now get out there and submit some events so I can play in your games!
