First Impressions: UFC 2009 Undisputed

i-can-totally-beat-up-forrest-griffin-no-seriously2

I hate your face.  Yup, you.  At any given time if I see you walking down the street, rest assured I am fantasizing about defiling your cranium in fantastically diabolical ways.  I would ruin your face with my unrelenting anger.  However, I never do as consequences and repercussions forbid me from doing so.  Thankfully the best possible outlet to vent my hostilities has been bestowed upon my XBOX 360 (also coming to the PS3) and it’s name is UFC 2009: Undisputed.  And, while your face remains safe, Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell’s and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua’s have been wrecked over and over again.

Follow me into the break for a description of the destruction.

First Impressions: Red Faction Guerilla Demo

rfg_800x600_005

It has been a long time since we’ve gotten our hands on a new Red Faction experience, but that will all change come June.  For those, like myself, that simply cannot wait to begin destroying Mars brick by brick, THQ and Volition Studios has seen fit to throw a one level demo our way, provided you pre-order the game at your local GameStop.

Red Faction, along with TimeSplitters, helped lay the foundation for the massive popularity of console first-person shooters, a foundation that Halo would cement a short time later.  However, Red Faction had something that Halo and nearly every other shooter has never had until last year’s release of Battlefield: Bad Company, realistic destructible environments.  Not only did it look cool, but it added a level of strategy not yet seen in the genre.

Guerilla is bringing back the destruction in a big way with their new, retooled Geo-Mod 2 engine.  This time, instead of using quick art swaps like all games that have come before it, RFG is using real-time piece by piece implosions.  I am happy to say it works brilliantly.

First Impressions: Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena DEMO Review

riddick

Earlier today, or yesterday depending on your timezone, the demo Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena debuted on Xbox Live.  I took the opportunity to give it a once through and take a few notes about  my impressions of the very short demo.  I won’t bother putting a spoiler warning, because it’s a ten minute demo.  Nevermind that I think I just did with that remark.

Second Impressions: F.E.A.R 2 Demo

boxartfear2

Don't be fooled, she'll eat you're heart like it's a piece of birthday cake.

There is so much I want to say about the Fear 2 Demo, so much in fact, that I will hold off on the long and undoubtedly lengthy review of what I am expecting to be one of the best games of 2009.

I know that seems like a big claim considering we are no more than a month into the new year, but when you show off a taste of something that grabs a player by the shirt and says “play the hell out of me until this game comes out in 2 weeks” That’s the kind of game that I want to play.

First Impressions: F.E.A.R. 2 Demo

boxartfear2

I sat down with both the PC and Xbox 360 version of the demo.  I had always been interested in F.E.A.R since the original but could never actually play it due to my PC at the time not being able to man up and play the game at a respectable framerate.  So here I am over 3 years after the original came out being drawn into playing the sequel and wondering… Will I get what this game is about?
